Chelsea have a penchant for signing wonderkids from South America. Brazil is a country they scout quite heavily.
Andrey Santos and Estevao Willian are two who will be arriving in west London next season, with Ecuadorian Kendry Paez to join them too. Argentinian Aaron Anselmino is already at the club, preparing for next season.
It looks as if those four will be joined by another. football.london understands Chelsea are close to signing Denner Evangelista from Brazilian side Corinthians, with a deal worth around £12.5million agreed. He is not due at the club until 2026, but will sign a deal until 2032.
But who is he?
Position and background
Evangelista is just 17 years old and plays as a left-back in the Corinthians academy. He has moved up to the U20 squad in the Brazilian league, scoring three goals and laying on one assist from full-back in eight appearances in the prestigious Copinha tournament.
Preferring to use the one-name approach of Denner, like many Brazilians before him, the defender has come through the ranks at Corinthians having joined the club at the age of 13.
How much has he cost?
Chelsea will pay around €14million for the left-back, if he meets the criteria for add-ons, with €10million up front and an extra €4million in add-ons. And the Blues may well have got a bargain.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano said: “One of my sources tells me that in Brazil they believe this player is worth way more than €10m plus €4m in bonuses, but Chelsea arrived at the right moment and were able to negotiate with Corinthians.”
Family ties
Denner will not be alone when he moves to England in 2026, that is providing his cousin is still playing in the Premier League by then, of course. That is because he is the cousin of Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes.
There is sure to be some proper rivalry in the family when the teenager is up to speed and playing for one of Gabriel's biggest rivals in Chelsea.
