Trevoh Chalobah has fired a three-word message ahead of Chelsea's tie against Copenhagen. The Danish outfit will host the Blues at the Parken Stadium on Thursday night in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League round of 16.
Chelsea secured automatic qualification to the knockout stages of the competition by finishing top of the table, winning each of their six ‘league phase’ matches. Copenhagen, however, pocketed just eight points and ranked 18th, earning an unseeded play-off tie against Heidenheim.
While the Blues will fancy their chances against the Danes, Enzo Maresca could be forced to field a team without Chalobah. The 25-year-old defender suffered a back injury during Chelsea’s defeat to Aston Villa a couple of weeks ago.
Speaking to reporters after the Blues' victory against Southampton last week, Maresca claimed Chalobah could be sidelined for up to 10 days. The Blues boss said: “He had a check yesterday and he will be around one week or 10 days. It’s not an important injury so that is good, but it’s a shame because we lose another player with the amount of injuries.”
As his return date nears, Maresca faces an anxious wait to see if he’ll pass a late fitness test. In the meantime, the Cobham graduate has uploaded a cryptic post to Instagram. Captioning a selection of pictures from the last month or so, Chalobah wrote: “Improve not Prove.”
Chelsea controversially recalled Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace during the January transfer window. While the defender hit the ground running upon his return to Stamford Bridge, he clearly still feels as if he has a lot to prove – whether that be to himself, friends, family, colleagues or supporters.
When Chelsea welcomed Chalobah back to West London in the new year, Maresca defended the club's decision. The Blues boss said: "It’s quite an easy process. We have new injuries. We were looking for a solution.
"We thought probably the best solution was to bring Trev back. We know him very well. He can help us. He knows the house better than me! He was very happy, I can see his face. I had a chat with him a few days ago, and I had a chat with him earlier today.
"The reason why he left at the beginning of the season was financial fair play, these kinds of things. It was not only a technical decision. The reason why he is here is that we are sure he can help us now."
