Reece James and Romeo Lavia are two of many Chelsea stars to have sent messages to Omari Kellyman after he confirmed injury will see him miss the rest of the season. The £19million summer signing from Aston Villa has been plagued by hamstring issues since his move, with that continuing despite his return to action with the under-21s.
Kellyman played 35 minutes of that 3-1 victory over Norwich City in Premier League 2 last week, but another hamstring injury means that will remain as his only appearance of 2025 thus far.
Confirming the news on Instagram, he wrote: “Beyond gutted to say that this season has come to an early end for me due to a reinjury of my hamstring, despite only just returning after having hamstring issues for a massive part of this season.
"24/25 has been a tough season for me mentally and physically due to injury but it’s important now that I take time to get this right and come out the other side stronger and better ready for what next season brings." The support from his Chelsea teammates since that announcement has been nice to see.
Club captain James, who has also been hampered by hamstring problems, simply replied with a red heart emoji. Further down in the comments, Carney Chukwuemake wrote: "Keep ur head up lil brother [white heart emoji] it’s nothing compared to the joy coming [hands together emoji]."
Lavia meanwhile, reposted Kellyman's update to his Instagram story and added a heartfelt message of his own. "Marathon, not a race. Stay strong brother! You'll be back better and stronger. John 13:7 [hands together emoji]," he wrote.
The Belgium international has also been hindered by injuries since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023. A two-month absence arrived after his most recent injury, but he returned to action this past weekend, playing eight minutes off the bench in the defeat to Arsenal.
Given how a number of Chelsea players have been impacted by long-term issues, Kellyman will undoubtedly have plenty of support when it comes to his recovery.
