Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes both agree that Cole Palmer is growing increasingly frustrated with his Chelsea team-mates.
Palmer, 22, was forced to sit out of the 1-0 away defeat to Arsenal after picking up an injury that has also seen him pull out of Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad. However, Palmer has cut a frustrated figure having failed to contribute a goal or assist in his last seven Premier League matches.
He has not found the back of the net since his classy finish in the 2-2 home draw with Bournemouth. While his record of 14 goals and six assists in 33 appearances is still impressive, it would be much higher had his team-mates converted the many opportunities he has created.
Recognising his palpable frustration, Scholes and Carragher believe it could lead to him wanting to leave Stamford Bridge if his team-mates don't step it up a level.
Speaking on the Overlap, Scholes said: “I’ve felt for a while that for Cole Palmer, it’s almost been too easy for him to play in that Chelsea team. He knows he’ll play every week and be the best player.
"I think he needs challenging more, and I don’t get the impression that they [Chelsea] are desperate to win anything.”

Agreeing with the Manchester United legend, Carragher replied: "I commentated on Brighton vs Chelsea in the league a month ago. I’m a big fan of Cole Palmer, and he played two passes early on, but the longer the game went on, you could see the frustration with his teammates.
"It reminded me of Stevie [Gerrard] at Liverpool at times, because he was so much better than everyone else and he got frustrated. Stevie was a local player, but he was never going to leave, whereas Cole Palmer isn’t.
“This is when I go back to those eight-year contracts, and whether they are good for the club and players. If you’re Cole Palmer, who’s got six or seven years left on his deal, and he should be playing for a team looking to win the Champions League, how does he get out?”

Palmer's deal at Stamford Bridge does not expire until 2033. There has been little to no links with a move elsewhere, but the club did recently deny reports that the ex-Manchester City ace has a clause in his deal that would compel the club to consider offers for him if they did not qualify for the Champions League.
While the Blues did miss Palmer at the Emirates Stadium, Maresca admitted a period of rest may help him. "I don't think [he will be fit for England] to be honest," the Chelsea boss said before the loss to Arsenal. "His injury is from yesterday's session. It's a muscular problem, the scan is planned for Monday morning.
He added: "We don't wish for a player's injury but in Cole's case at this moment, probably give him some rest physically and mentally it could be good."
