Gene Hackman played villains, heroes and antiheroes across action, comedy and drama. Despite worldwide recognition, the reluctant star, who has died aged 95, had no time for fame, insisting his own movies gave him an “icky feeling”.

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a request to do a welfare check on Wednesday around 1.45pm local time and found Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa and a dog dead.

Fyre II: $1m tickets on sale for Fyre Festival II after fraudulent disaster

Billy McFarland, who co-organised the luxury-turned-nightmare event in 2017, has officially launched Fyre II, with tickets ranging in price from $1,400 (£1,100) to $1.1m (£869,000).
