Cole Palmer will remain with Chelsea this international break as he undergoes 'further assessment' on his latest injury, the England National team have confirmed.
On a 10-game goalless streak, Palmer missed Sunday’s away defeat to Arsenal having sustained a muscle injury in the build up to the meeting. Three days prior he played 45 second-half minutes vs Copenhagen in the UEFA Europa Conference League and missed training the next day.
As he missed the last Premier League fixture before the international break, Enzo Maresca was asked if the player will be linking up with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, who is the new England manager, for World Cup qualifiers vs Latvia and Albania.
"I don’t think so," the current Blues boss responded, adding: “We never wish for players to get injured but in Cole’s case in this moment it will give him some rest physically and mentally so it could be good. He needs a scan and it is planned for Monday.”
After that scan, on Tuesday afternoon the Three Lions have confirmed Palmer's resignation from the international squad for this international break.
A statement read: “Cole Palmer remains with Chelsea for further assessment on an injury sustained in training ahead of his club’s fixture at Arsenal last Sunday.”
Therefore the true extent of his problem remains unknown. Domestic club football remains on pause until Maresca's side host London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, April 3.
Alongside this injury information it is revealed Under-21s trio Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Adam Wharton and Liam Delap will be called up to Tuchel's 26-man squad.
Amongst that group remains Blues Reece James and Levi Colwill, who will both be aiming to once again earn the favour of their former Stamford Bridge boss.
